MECA’s Land Survival (MLS) Overview

There is an age-old adage that states, “It’s better to have something and not need it than to need it and not have it.” This especially applies to the necessity of being trained in the art of survival. No one ever wants to find themselves in a position to have to use the knowledge and skill imparted in survival training; least of all aircrew members. But often times even a short course in survival skills can make the difference in whether or not you make it out alive.

Topics included in this course

  • Survival Psychology and Team Dynamics
  • Pre-event preparation
  • Building a individual survival kit
  • Emergency Egress Procedures
  • Situational Assessment
  • Size-up and Task Prioritizing
  • Fire Building
  • Shelter construction
  • Procurement of essentials
  • Signaling Techniques

MECA offers TWO levels of land survival training:

MLS Level I – is an 8-hour course consisting of classroom presentation supplemented with limited field simulation.

MLS Level II – is a 24-hour course consisting of in-depth classroom presentation and extensive hands-on overnight survival experience in the field.
